?Dvorák String Sextet Schubert Octet
Soloists of the London Philharmonic Orchestra
Chamber music can be subtle, and it can be sublime. But sometimes, it’s just about a group of musicians getting together and simply having fun. Dvorák’s String Sextet is sunny, songful and packed with Bohemian folk-rhythms, all exactly as enjoyable as you’d expect from the composer of the ‘New World’ Symphony. Schubert, meanwhile, wrote his Octet while he was on holiday: a cheerful cavalcade of love songs, hunting horns, musical jokes and operetta hits, all crammed into six exuberant movements that bubble with inspiration and joy. The music of friends – come and share it today.
