Specsavers Search for Radio Airbourne Idol

21 July 2009

87.7FM Radio Airbourne, sponsored by Specsavers, returns for 2009 bringing the official commentary to Eastbourne International Airshow and aspiring DJ's have the chance to hit the waves on their own prime time show as the X-Factor style DJ competition is back.

This year there is the opportunity for budding DJ's and radio enthusiasts to take to the airwaves as the station re-launches its Radio Star competition. Entries are now open for the 2009 DJ competition and entrants must put together a 5-minute audition tape to impress a tough panel of judges and win their very own presenting slot.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said "Radio Airbourne has become established as a key part of Eastbourne's spectacular four day airshow, creating a fantastic build up in the days leading up to Airbourne as well as becoming a great source of information, lively commentaries and interviews during the event. We are pleased to be working with Specsavers on Radio Airbourne in 2009.

"The Radio Star competition is a brilliant opportunity for any budding radio presenter to get some hands-on experience in a studio and gain behind the scenes production skills, with top advice from some experienced broadcasters. I can't wait to hear what the 2009 entries have in store!"

The winner will host their own show on Sunday 16 August plus spend the day working behind the scenes at the official radio station to the World's biggest free seafront airshow, but first they must make a real impression on a two-man judging panel, including Specsavers' Matt Briggs and Radio Airbourne's own Mr Nasty, Station Manager, Ian Harling.

This year, Radio Airbourne 87.7FM is being sponsored by Specsavers in Eastbourne and joins the airwaves from Monday 10 August, broadcasting all week through to Sunday 16 August, with live commentary, pilot interviews, traffic and weather updates and a great variety of music. Broadcast 24 hours a day, listeners will be able to tune in at any time throughout the week to get the latest flying news and previews.

Store director Martin East says: "We are very proud to be sponsoring Eastbourne Airbourne this year. The event is always action packed and a fun family day out. It can also be pretty noisy so we hope that by providing free screenings, everyone can enjoy the show to the full while raising awareness of the importance of healthy eyes and hearing."

Teams from Specsavers will also be hosting a marquee throughout the event offering free vision exams, hearing screening and daily prize giveaways. Visitors to the stand will also receive money-off vouchers and exclusive ticket holder discounts to use in local Specsavers stores.

Entries are open now for budding radio stars to send in their own 5-minute long CD or Mini Disc recording, with entries closing on Monday 3rd August. Recordings should be sent to the Station Manager, Radio Airbourne, Eastbourne Borough Council, 68 Grove Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4UH.
