Bandstand Search for Winning Birthday Image
24/02/2010

Celebrating its 75th birthday later this year, one of the country's most iconic landmarks is inviting keen photographers and illustrators to come up with a winning image to be displayed to visitors around the world this summer.
Eastbourne Bandstand will celebrate 75 years this summer with two special concerts marking the anniversary of its first ever concerts on 28 July and its official opening on 5 August.
Already inviting visitors to submit their memories and photographs of the venue over the years, with the best being displayed on the Bandstand website, the south coast landmark is now looking for the best photograph and illustration to be turned into a 75th commemorative postcard and given out during the Birthday events.
The winning photographer and illustrator will receive a bumper Bandstand Goody Bag including 10 copies of the limited edition postcard, a copy of their winning image framed, and an exclusive pass giving 10 free tickets to Bandstand concerts of their choice, presented in the Bandstand Bag for Life.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said "Eastbourne Bandstand is in for a spectacular year in 2010 with lots to look forward to, including the birthday concerts, a packed tribute season, and the brand new Kids Summertime Specials. This competition is a great opportunity for fans of our beautiful Bandstand to enter their favourite photographs of times gone by, or head to the venue and get snapping, while keen artists of all ages can come up with an illustration that captures the uniqueness of this famous landmark. With such a great history and a brilliant position on the heart of Eastbourne seafront, I'm sure we will see some fantastic entries!"
From its blue dome roof to the silver spinial and from traditional silver bands to a rock concert by a million-selling British band, Eastbourne Bandstand is an inspirational venue and entrants must capture this in their entries.
And it will be up to visitors and fans of Eastbourne Bandstand to pick the winning entries, with all photographs and illustrations to be viewable on the Bandstand website at www.eastbournebandstand.co.uk, with voting forms also available from the Seafront Office.
The competition is open to everyone and there are no age restrictions. Entries can be submitted as photographs, colour or black and white, at least 1MB in size, or A4 sized illustrations, paintings or drawings.
All entries should be sent to Eastbourne Bandstand Competition, Seafront Office, 68 Grove Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4UH and must be marked clearly with name, age, address and contact number. Photographs can be emailed to promotions@eastbourne.gov.uk . Entries close on 1 June 2010.
The winning entries will be turned into a limited edition 75th anniversary postcard to be given out during the Birthday Concerts this summer.
