Fresh Designs Sought for Eastbourne Bag for Life
23 March 2009

Iconic illustrations of Eastbourne are being invited as the resort launches its Bag for Life competition to celebrate British Tourism Week.
Keen to come up with a lasting design for the town, Eastbourne Borough Council are producing their first ever official Eastbourne Bag for Life and want residents and visitors to share their ideas. Children and adults are being asked to enter their drawings and illustrations of Eastbourne with the chance of seeing their design printed on the Bag for Life.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said "This is an excellent opportunity for those that live in or love to visit Eastbourne to conjure up a fantastic design for the town that can be used on the Bag for Life and produce a lasting souvenir of the town. We want as many people as possible to get involved and come up with eye catching designs that really capture what Eastbourne is all about. A top seaside resort in the UK, we are proud of our Tourism industry and pleased to launch this competition as the whole country comes together to celebrate and recognise Tourism."
Bags for Life are eco-friendly and the preferred shopping bag for an increasing number of consumers. With many supermarkets and shops now asking customers to pay for their carrier bags, Eastbourne is recognising an opportunity to promote the resort on a lasting and usable souvenir.
Eastbourne Borough Council are leaving it up to entrants' imaginations to come up with a design, but ask that entries capture ‘iconic Eastbourne' and the essence of the resort.
From treasured Eastbourne holiday memories to significant landmarks in the town that residents live and work in everyday, the design could capture anything that makes people think of Eastbourne; from the blue dome of the Bandstand to the record sunshine the resort enjoys.
The competition is open to everyone and there are no age restrictions. Entries must be illustrations and can be colour or black and white.
Entries must be minimum A4 size and maximum A3 size and should be sent to Bag for Life Competition, Tourism Promotions, Eastbourne Borough Council, 68 Grove Road, Eastbourne, BN21 4UH. They should be marked clearly with name, age, address and contact number and only one entry per person is permitted. Entries close on 31 May 2009.
The resort is hoping to unveil the winning design and launch the Bag for Life during Airbourne 2009.
