VisitEastbourne 'Tweets' and 'Pokes' Online

VisitEastbourne is using the power of social networking to raise awareness of the south coast resort around the World as it launches new profiles on Facebook and Twitter.
The official tourism website for Eastbourne, VisitEastbourne.com has set up a profile on Facebook and new social networking phenomenon, Twitter, to spread news on the resort across the globe. With millions of people all over the World now using social networking websites to keep up to date with what's going on and meet new people, Eastbourne is using these popular platforms to get instant messages, updates and news out into the public domain.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said "It's great news that Eastbourne now has a strong online presence on the popular social networking sites as these websites are key to communicating Eastbourne's message to a younger audience. Offering the capability to instantly send out updates, add events and invite fans, we can build up online awareness of the resort for visitors interested in coming here. With VisitEastbourne.com offering a one-stop platform for booking breaks and finding information on the town, it is great that we can create more links to our official website by using sites such as Facebook and Twitter."
With Twitter's popularity continuing to rise and becoming a popular talking point on many television and radio shows, Eastbourne wants to get involved in this new online resource and maximise the positive impact it can have for the town.
Setting up profiles for VisitEastbourne and AdoptaPebble the ‘tweets' have already attracted more than 70 followers, including rival tourist resorts and travel writers.
With the VisitEastbourne page launched only last week on Facebook, it is quickly attracting fans from across the town and further afield, all eager to attend the resort's major events in 2009.
By creating profiles on Facebook and Twitter, the resort is keen to use as many resources as possible to raise awareness of Eastbourne and add to the four million visitors that already come to the seaside town each year.
