Thousands of Delegates Visit Eastbourne this Autumn

18 September 2009

Eastbourne is looking ahead to a busy autumn as nearly 4,500 delegates descend on Eastbourne for a busy season of conferences with the resort enjoying year round tourism.

Between now and the end of November Eastbourne's main conference venue, the Devonshire Park Centre, will host six major events including Rotary 1070 bringing 1000 delegates and Kingsway Mission Worship bringing 1200 delegates to the town. With another 14 conferences already confirmed for 2010 Eastbourne is continuing to attract new business to the town despite the current economic climate.

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said "Eastbourne is very well placed to benefit from tourism throughout the year, with our tourism product including a bumper calendar of events in the summer attracting visitors to the resort, while conferences attract business tourism outside of the main season. With the addition of Towner this year meaning there is extra exhibition space for conference organisers in the form of a state of the art gallery, we are pleased to be able to market Eastbourne as an attractive and affordable destination."

Conferences taking place next year include brand new names to Eastbourne such as the Seventh-Day Adventist taking place in January and the RCN Practice Nurses in June.

With the town's Conference Bureau carrying out significant marketing activity including exhibiting at the Let's Do Business event earlier in the summer plus the recent mail out of 8,000 postcards to potential clients, the resort is keen to attract new business.

And despite the credit crunch climate, Eastbourne is continuing to stand out as a premier conference destination. Hits on ConferenceEastbourne.com are up by 67% from January to August 2009 compared to the same period in 2009, and delegate numbers continue to increase with 2009 attracting a 46% increase in the number of delegates visiting the town.

Providing a one-stop-shop for conference organisers, from finding venues for smaller events, seminars and workshops to working alongside clients from start to finish organising larger conferences, Eastbourne Conference Bureau handles all types of enquiries.
