20 April 2009
More than 25,000 visitors are expected to celebrate the 50th Birthday of one of Britain's most iconic cars as Eastbourne's free motoring spectacular marks the Mini's half centenary next month.
Magnificent Motors returns to Eastbourne seafront from 2-3 May attracting over 550 vehicles across the two days as they park up on the immaculate Western Lawns. With the 2009 event coinciding with the Mini's 50th Birthday, visitors will be treated to a brilliant display from the Mini Club showing the car's transformation over the years plus a special appearance from a genuine November 1959 working Mini.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said "Magnificent Motors promises to be a real spectacle for 2009 with a great variety of vehicles on display plus entertainment for all the family. It's a rare opportunity to see the automobile timeline laid out in front of you, and to have an original 1959 Mini at this year's event is brilliant and I'm sure will attract the crowds. With plenty more entertainment on offer over the Bank Holiday weekend, including the return of the popular French Market, Magnificent Motors makes a packed day out for everyone."
Now in its sixth year, motoring enthusiasts can look forward to viewing the biggest number yet of classic and vintage cars, motorbikes, buses, steam traction engines and commercial and military vehicles as they park up on Eastbourne's elegant promenade.
With a cavalcade kicking each day off at 10am, visitors can watch classic and vintage cars drive along Eastbourne seafront before settling on the Western Lawns.
Attracting a vast selection of different vehicles, Magnificent Motors really does celebrate the vehicles of yesteryear with 2009's oldest exhibits being the 1910 Brush Runabout and 1917 Dodge Tourer.
Held over the May Bank Holiday weekend, Magnificent Motors offers something for all the family with a French Market offering over 30 stalls selling continental cakes and breads, cheese and leather goods, plus fairground rides will keep the kids entertained.
