Watch Eastbourne and Angus at Home this Christmas

3 December 2008

Following its summer cinema release, teen Brit flick of 2008 Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging is being released on DVD next week with Eastbourne filling everyone's TV screens as they snuggle down to watch a movie this Christmas.

Filmed and set in Eastbourne with the characters referring to the town throughout, Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging is the latest film from Bend it Like Beckham director Gurinder Chadha. Attracting promising reviews when it hit cinemas back in July, the film will be released on DVD next Monday 8 December and features scenes at iconic Eastbourne landmarks, including the Bandstand, Pier and Holywell beach.

Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Cllr Steve Wallis said "The cinema release of Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging was very exciting for Eastbourne with lots of interest from film fans desperate to see the locations featured on the big screen. I'm sure that the DVD will prove a very popular stocking filler this Christmas and it offers another opportunity to watch the great range of film locations Eastbourne offers. With a busy year of filming in the town, we're looking to attract even more TV producers and movie makers in 2009."

With a beautiful promenade, stunning South Downs backdrop and a dedicated Film Liaison Unit, Eastbourne is growing in status as a popular film destination with more and more companies choosing to use the resort.

For the first time this year, locations used in Eastbourne to shoot films, TV series and music videos are being featured in the town's 2009 Holiday Guide. Tourism bosses are keen to maximise on the recent filming success and hope to attract more visitors to the resort as a result of watching Eastbourne on TV and wanting to see the sights for themselves.

Eastbourne offers an ideal landscape for filming, with the South Downs offering miles of open countryside without a pylon or traffic in sight and has made the perfect spot for filming famous scenes from Harry Potter, Pearl Harbour and James Bond.

The resort's other gem for film makers is the picturesque Victorian seafront. Eastenders spent the day filming on Holywell Beach, Little Britain's Matt Lucas and David Walliams featured the seafront in a ‘Ladies' sketch, and the colourful Carpet Gardens feature in the opening scene of Angus, Thongs & Perfect Snogging.
