Ad Campaign Boosts Downland Activities
5 June 2007
Walking and cycling tours on the South Downs are getting a visitor boost following Eastbourne’s latest advertising campaign.
The tours run by Eastbourne’s Downland Ranger, are becoming increasingly popular and are set for their busiest year following the new ‘Re:cycling’ and ‘Green Peace’ campaign which shows visitors cycling and walking on the Downs.
Eastbourne Borough Council Spokesperson for Tourism, Councillor Steve Wallis said “There is so much to see in and around Eastbourne that can be achieved on foot, cycle or even on horse-back. I would encourage everyone to take advantage of our excellent public transport and great value daytrip travel cards. We are proof that you really can enjoy all that our wonderful countryside has to offer without polluting the environment.”
Visitors to the resort can join guided walks and cycle tours with the Downland Ranger, Dave Pearce, on various dates throughout the season. As well as enjoying the scenic beauty of the South Downs, Dave explains the history of the Downs and the flora and fauna along the route.
Downland Ranger, Dave Pearce said “We first began these guided walks around 20 years ago and since then demand has grown each year from both seasoned walkers or those simply looking for a family day out. In particular our coastal walks to Cow Gap, below Beachy Head, are a kids favourite with the chance to explore rock pools and discover our wonderful marine life.”
The next walking tour takes place on Wednesday 13 June from Butts Brow, and the next cycling tour on Sunday 24 June along the South Downs Way (Butts Brow to Firle Beacon).
