Speed Days Proves a Real Winner
5 September 2007

Competing from countries all over the world, athletes raced head to head in speeds of over 65mph, all fighting in this qualifier for the 2007 IGSA World Cup title. The free event proved a real winner with visitors too, with thousands flocking to the scenic Beachy Head venue to cheer on the competitors.
Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Economy, Tourism & Environment, Councillor Steve Wallis said "This has proved an exciting new event for Eastbourne, particularly in terms of attracting new visitors and raising Eastbourne's profile. Both the Council and sponsor Go Fast are delighted with this years success and are working together to ensure this fantastic event returns to Beachy Head next year."
European riders dominated the winners board with Dutch rider Edgar De Wit storming the Street Luge event in first place. Austria's Michael Serek captured the Classic Luge title and Sweden's Erik Lundberg took first place in the Downhill Skateboarding event.
The event also included an official race party for all riders held in Eastbourne's Boltons Bar in celebration of the new event. With a strong youth audience evident at this years event, organisers plan to involve local schools and colleges next year in building box carts for the Soapbox title race.
Funded and organised by energy drinks manufacturer Go Fast and the UK Gravity Sports Association, Eastbourne Borough Council supported the event this year with a one-off £5,000 capital spend to remove cats eyes in the road along the race route. This initial investment means the event can return each year without any further spend by the Council.
