Tennis Events for FREE in Eastbourne

Visitors to Eastbourne can enjoy a game, set and match for free this week as the AEGON Summer County Cup is played at Devonshire Park.

 

Following the success of the brand new AEGON International last month, Eastbourne is continuing its tennis season with a series of free events at Devonshire Park. Taking place all week through to Friday, spectators can come along for free to cheer on counties from around the UK as they compete in the County Cup that has been running for more than a century.

 

Eastbourne Borough Council Cabinet Member for Tourism, Cllr Susan Morris said "Eastbourne provides a world class setting for tennis and its high calibre grass courts at Devonshire Park were chosen as the location for this year's brand new combined men and women's international championships. Those that enjoyed last month's AEGON International or anyone looking for a great day out this summer, should head to the turf at Devonshire Park and enjoy one of the many free events taking place there this summer."

 

Devonshire Park is one of 13 venues across Britain that has been chosen to host the AEGON Summer County Cup and the event involves 44 countries and regions with around 600 competitors.

 

With Eastbourne's famous tennis ground offering a relaxed garden party atmosphere and set in the country's sunniest town, it provides the perfect setting to soak in some top tennis action for free.

 

As the trend for staycations looks set to continue all summer, Eastbourne offers plenty of events and attractions to entertain holidaymakers on a limited budget during 2009.

 

Free tennis events continue through to August and include the Devonshire Park Junior Open Tennis, the Women and Men's Veteran tournaments, and the LTA South of England Championships.

 

Plus Eastbourne is also gearing up to stage the World's biggest seafront airshow and the UK leg of the World Downhill Skateboarding Championships in August, both completely free to visitors.
