Butts Lane Hill Climb

Butts Lane Hill Climb

Photography by Stuart Mole and Eddie Bell.

The Butts Lane Hill Climb in Willingdon, near Eastbourne is a challenging ride of 1.05 kilometres with an average gradient of 10.3% (max 14.2% and a height gain of 116 metres, and attracts top riders from the region and further afield.

The weather can play a big part. Last year saw unseasonal Autumn weather, which was kind to everyone, plus some highly vocal encouragement from the MC at the half way point and thumping music all the way up the course, as well as cheering spectators, made for an excellent event.

There are cash prizes on offer, as well as a joint prize for the fastest rider at Butts Lane and at the Firle Bostal hill climb which takes place the same day in the morning. With the HQ at The Wheatsheaf Inn, Church Lane, Willingdon BN20 9HP, everyone, riders and spectators, can make a day of it, invite friends and enjoy a drink or a bite to eat and then make a night of it.

Prize presentation in the pub soon after the finish of the event.
