Details

Our Annual Schools Exhibition is back – this time open to all local groups of children and young people in or out of school, from 0 to 21 years old.

We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to design the new format, led by a steering group of teachers and artists. This year, with the renewed emphasis on drawing in the art curriculum, we’re exploring different ways to understand what drawing is and what it can do.

Join us in the gallery on Sunday 28 October, 11.00am to 4.00pm for a day of free workshops led by artists involved in the project and pick up your free resource pack full of ideas and details on how to take part.

Take Part
All groups that wish to take part need a resource pack which provides full submission guidelines, information about art and artists in our collection and creative tips for making work. These will automatically be sent to Head Teachers of all East Sussex schools at the beginning of Term 2. If you want to ensure it reaches you personally, are from a school beyond the county, or are from a community group, and you’re unable to join us for the launch, please contact Sue Hervey our new Schools Co-ordinator (details below).

Get Creative
There are no entry requirements, beyond linking your group’s submission to selected artists and artworks in our collection, and there are four age ranges for entering work: 0-4 years, 4-11 years, 12-16 years and 17-21 years.

You will need to choose one age range per school/group to work within and enter one artwork made collaboratively that responds to one of the three artworks suggested as your starting point. The final piece can be in any medium and we particularly encourage creative writing, video, design and performance as well of course as visual art – from photography through to sculpture – all of which can be mediums to ‘draw’ with.

The twelve artworks chosen as inspiration were selected by the steering group, from a long-list of women artists in our collection. We provide detail on them, along with lots of creative tips and an entry form, in the resource pack.

Be Supported
All groups have the chance to work with an artist who will deliver a workshop for your group and/or a CPD training session for leaders and teachers. We will negotiate dates and times according to requests that come in on a first come, first serve basis and will do our best to accommodate everyone, although cannot guarantee this.
