Exhibitions, displays, films, and historic architectural artefacts tell the story of the 7th Duke of Devonshire's vision and development of Eastbourne as a new seaside resort from the mid 19th Century onwards.

Exhibition: Eastbourne in Sickness and in Health - Eastbourne has a long history of being one of the healthiest resorts in the country, a place for convalescence and recuperation. From the cradle to the grave, this timeline exhibition traces the town’s medical history from the 1860s to today, coinciding with the 70th anniversary of the NHS. A fine collection of Victorian and vintage medical artefacts is also on display.

Exhibition: Eastbourne's Devonshire Park -the Duke's Pleasure Ground - in the 19th Century the success of the new town of Eastbourne depended on a central entertainment area. Visual archives and scale models show how the park developed into the main cultural area of the town and its continuing use as a sports, theatre, arts and music hub.

Displays: “Never East of the Pier, my dear!”- describes how visitors to the town were once advised to avoid this bustling working area inhabited by traders, fishermen and labourers, providing essential services for the town; Eastbourne Pier shows how generations of visitors enjoyed Summer shows, dancing, bandstand concerts, amusements, local and continental boat trips; Front Line Eastbourne - describes how during World War II Eastbourne was one of the most heavily bombed South coast towns shown with original newspaper photographs of the devastation and a map documenting the bombs dropped in over 90 air raids from July 1940 to March 1944.
