East of the Pier Heritage Trail

The Redoubt Music Gardens (the Colonnade behind the Pavilion Tea Rooms) was a key venue in the 1920s and 30s. It featured an art deco bandstand and arena, completed in 1934, that could seat up to 2,000 people. When the Central Bandstand was built west of the pier in 1935, the Redoubt had a less significant role over time and focused on children’s entertainment.

Take a look at the information boards here to find out more about seaside entertainment and the story of bathing.
