Jetboards, Supersized Paddleboards and Daredevil Stunts at Eastbourne’s Beach Life Festival

15 July 2017

Beach Life Festival returns to Eastbourne on 15-16 July featuring Jetboards, supersized paddleboard competitions and plenty of adrenaline-fuelled stunts!

Jet Boarding, By Jet Board Limited

The free fast-paced weekend features outdoor escapades both on land and sea, as extreme sport experts show off their skills across the weekend, with the chance for daredevils to join in on the action!

Spectators can get a glimpse of the future with Jetboards, a surfboard with an engine which can tear through the sea with no need for waves or wind. The futuristic surfing will be demoed by the Eastbourne Kayak and Surf. Spectators can watch the superfast board power through the waves, take an up close look at the jetboards, and even enter the prize giveaway to win a lesson!

Joining the quirky water sports line-up is the XL stand up paddleboards, courtesy of Buzz Active who will be hosting a race on the boards. The supersized boards can hold up to six people at a time and two XL paddleboards will be available for teams to battle it out on and try not to fall in the water! The races will take place from 2.30-4.30pm on Saturday and Sunday, each team will be made up of a maximum of six people per paddleboard at £30 per team. For further details please call Buzz Active on (01323) 417023.

Buzz Active will also be offering taster sessions for windsurfing, sailing and stand up paddleboarding which are all led by fully qualified instructors.

Eastbourne Roller Derby returns to Fisherman’s Greens this year with a two-day intense tournament, which is set to attract some of the finest talent from across the globe. Saturday sees Eastbourne Roller Derby’s home team competing against international skaters and Sunday features the ‘Seaside Sevens’, a 7-a-side roller derby and a women’s only tournament. Budding skaters will be free to have a go themselves in the open court on Sunday.

My Skate World is back for more action with the World Slalom Series featuring one of the UK’s top skaters, Chelsie Peters, along with the father and daughter skating duo, Paul and Katie Croft. An interactive court will be open for skaters to practice their skills, try out hockey with Eastbourne Edge or challenge themselves to the limbo and high jump.

Inspire Stunt Show will be bringing their fearless team to Eastbourne to perform an epic show featuring extreme bike stunts and free-running that will leave the crowds hearts racing.

Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said “There’s no event quite like Beach Life Festival, with its fun festival vibes and talented sportsmen showing off their skills, the event is great fun for both adrenaline seekers and those who prefer to let the experts take the risk! There are so many incredible displays and plenty of entertainment across the weekend, you won’t be disappointed!”

The south coast’s coolest, fastest and most intense sports festival takes place on Eastbourne’s Eastern Seafront which transforms into a surfer’s paradise as colourful VW’s make their mark along the seafront with an array of campers, beetles and beach buggies. Adding to the festival vibes is SunSonic who will be bringing the soundtrack with DJs – including JellyFunk, performers and dancers.

For those who can’t get enough of the action, Sk8 School will be continuing the fun at the Beach Life Skate Party with a Roller Disco at Eastbourne Sports Park from 2.30pm.

There’s plenty of delicious treats to re-energise with this year from German sausages to delicious wood fired pizza from Garden Grove Pizzeria. For those with a sweet tooth, Ice Cream, doughnuts by Sweet as a Nut and Pepe’s Churros are sure to hit the spot.

On Saturday at Princes Park a community fun day will be in full swing with performances, art workshops, a discovery trail and more, organised by the Friends of Princes Park and Same Sky. The entertainment continues with a music stage featuring live performances on Saturday from 12.30-7pm with Beach Life Festival returning to the stage on Sunday.
