Eastbourne Sports Festival Springs into Action with £1 Activities

Eastbourne Sports Festival kick starts on 20 May – 26 May for a week of sports activities on offer for just £1, with all proceeds going to charity. Organised by Sport Eastbourne and the NSPCC, several of Eastbourne’s fitness and leisure centres are participating, providing taster sessions for everything from Bubble Football to Circus Skills.

Over 50 different sports activities will be available to try, providing all ages and abilities with the opportunity to get stuck into something new. The event, which has rallied up support from England Rugby Star, Owen Farrell, will be donating all proceeds to the Eastbourne branch of the NSPCC to train volunteers on the ChildLine Schools Service.

Eastbourne Sports Festival, which was formerly a 2 day event, will be running for a whole week marking this year’s festival as the biggest yet. There will be a mixture of both traditional and quirky sports to be tried from Ballet and Karate to Clubbercise and Roller Frisbee, costing £1 per taster session for each person.

The aim of Eastbourne Sports Festival is to encourage a healthy lifestyle and sports participation for all ages and abilities. This year will be the first time the event hosts a morning specifically for people with disabilities as well as a morning of activities for pre-school children.

Eastbourne Borough Council Director of Tourism and Enterprise, Phil Evans said “Eastbourne Sports Festival is a great opportunity to make a lifestyle change, find a new hobby or rediscover a previous passion for sports.

Last year’s event raised £1500 in just two days so with this year’s event being open for a whole week hopefully we can raise even more money and make a positive impact on the NSPCC and young people’s lives.”

There are plenty of venues across Eastbourne taking part including all of Sport Eastbourne’s centres; Eastbourne Sports Park, Cavendish Sports Centre, Hampden Park Sports Centre and Shinewater Sports Centre. The Sovereign Centre, Motcombe Swimming Pool, Eastbourne and Gildredge Park Bowling Clubs and Hampden Park Tennis Club will also be amongst the venues participating in the action packed week.
