The Cookshelf

4 North Street,
BN21 3HG

We are a small cookery school with a cake and cook book shop. We also sell cookery related items and spices from around the world.

Our courses include:

For very good reason, pasta is one of the most popular foods in the world! It is tasty, easy to cook and can be used in a wide variety of dishes. It's also extremely satisfying to make from scratch and uses only two ingredients so can easily be made when there's not much else in the house - you just need flour and eggs.

At The Cookshelf, we use the finest '00' flour and during this course you will learn how to mix, knead, rest, roll and cut your own batch of pasta dough from scratch. From this dough, our expert tutors will show you how to make fillings for delicious ravioli/tortellini and create wonderful sauces using the best fresh ingredients.

Finish off your morning or afternoon by eating what you have made and enjoy a cold glass (or two) of Prosecco (included).

Pasta machines, cook books and accessories are available to buy from The Cookshelf shop.

The burger is much maligned! During this class, students can learn to make a healthy version, with fresh ingredients, fresh herbs and a lot of fun. Finished off with a lovely pudding, the teen dinner party will be making a come back!

"The only thing you need to bake perfect bread is a bowl, a flat knife and perfect ingredients" quoted from our Cookshelf Tutor, Ian Dowding.

Once you have learned the basic bread making skills there will be no stopping you. Learn how to make the perfect sun dried tomato bread, Focaccia and Pane al Cioccolato (Chocolate Bread) in our lovely cookery school setting.

Thinking of having a dinner party? Impress your friends with homemade canapés and finish the evening off with your own petits fours. This course will take you step by step through a selection of wonderful and tasty recipes to stun your friends and family!
