An exciting helicopter display team who thrill audiences at air shows with their dynamic flying displays in Wildcat helicopters.
The Black Cats have been a popular fixture on the air show circuit since 2001 when they were known as “The Lynx Pair”. In 2004, the team was given more support from the Royal Navy and Augusta Westland (now Leonardo Helicopters) and adopted the name of ‘The Black Cats’, which was derived from the Lynx Wildcat of 702 Naval Air Squadron’s badge and also the naval slang of ‘Black Catting’ which implies having done something better than someone else.
The aircraft will break into two wingovers; initially opposing 180 wingovers before crossing back in front of crowd centre. After this they make their way back towards the crowd to break with number one in front of number two before repositioning at crowd centre. Now into a crowd favourite, the Carousel. The aircraft will climb whilst facing each other and rotating through 450 degrees before entering a synchronised nose over. This is where the aircraft reaches 90 degrees nose down as they look to accelerate and lose height as quickly as possible.
This is a display you don't want to miss!
