About
A lovingly converted 19th Century lighthouse perched on the pristine chalky white cliffs of Beachy Head, just west of Eastbourne with 360-degree views of the English Channel. The Belle Tout mixes modern luxuries with a unique setting quite literally on the very edge of England’s south coast. Belle Tout’s rooms are individually styled. The ground floor rooms offer more space, while the first floor rooms are much smaller but benefit from unrivalled sea views.
These views are spectacular. No matter which way you look, you are faced with the splendours of the English wilds. On one side - the blue waters of the Channel crash onto the rocks, providing not just idyllic scenery, but also a calming soundtrack should you venture out for a late night walk, while on the other - the green slopes of the Seven Sisters cliffs rise up and down in elegant undulations into the rich blue hues of the sky. Every effort has been made to keep the original features of the lighthouse, but you’ll marvel at just how much attention has been paid to comfort and enjoyment. The lamp room for example has a warming and welcoming light at night and comes with binoculars to help you spy on passing ships, or you can simply sit back in comfort with a glass of wine and enjoy view.
Belle Tout’s cosy rooms are furnished to a high standard and some come with large double aspect windows, white walls and some with exposed brickwork, soft homely furnishings and inviting shower rooms. The first floor is home to three rooms - Shiraz which is decorated in warm colours and looks out onto the Birling Gap, the colourful Beach Hut room which has some of the best views of the Beachy Head working lighthouse and the Captains Cabin which comes with a fireplace and exposed brick walls. The lower ground floor has a further two rooms - the traditional Old England room and the modern New England Room - Old England comes with splendid views over the countryside and a spacious bath. The circular Lighthouse Keeper’s Loft room (converted original lighthouse keepers bunk room) situated between the breakfast room and a lounge comes with exposed brick walls, a fireplace and views out over Beachy Head with a mezzanine bed accessed by a vertical ladder.
This is the perfect spot to go for walks as it is right on the South Downs Way. You can explore the rustic coastline and visit the nearby town of Eastbourne - which is perfectly situated just a few miles east of Beachy Head. If you get peckish and don’t feel like a journey into the town, then the Beachy Head pub is just five minutes away and serves seasonal pub food in a charming environment. Slightly further is The Thai Terre Restaurant or The Tiger Inn at East Dean - The quintessential English country pub on the village green.
