Extraordinary Women in Eastbourne: 1918 - 2018
Community Project & Exhibition 2018
2018 marked 100 years since the Representation of the Peoples Act that gave the right to vote to around 40% of British women.
Volunteers helped us with a major research project to discover the everyday stories of women in Eastbourne over the last 100 years and prove that what can be described as the 'ordinary' can often be the most remarkable.
One Family, Many Stories
By using the example of one family's history as a starting point, we were able to reveal how life has developed for women within Eastbourne as a result of this Act.
A topic we explored was whether it was actually the legal rights of women or changing atitudes of society that enabled change to happen.
