Let's Be Savvy This Summer!

7 August 2017

Finding activities to entertain the kids towards the end of the holidays always proves a challenge, everything has already been thought of or done, with money not as disposable any more.

We’ve come up with 10 fun free activities you can do across Eastbourne without spending much money, but still ensuring the best summer for you and your family!

Harbour Trails App

#1 Download our free trails app and follow the Harbour trail, taking you to areas you’ve never seen before! We know you’ll enjoy this so why not try out our other trails, exploring different areas of the sunshine coast.

#2 Whilst you’re in the Harbour why not try your hand at crabbing and see what creatures you can find in the depths of the waterfront. Don’t forget to take some pictures before you put them back into their home!
Feeding the ducks at Princes Park

#3 Wanting just a play park where the kids can run around to their hearts content? Why not visit Princes’ Park or Hampden Park with both locations having fields to play games in and ponds to feed the ducks.

#4 Why not get creative and make a picture bingo for your kids to do along a walk! It’s an easy way to keep them entertained and focused, with the promise of a prize tending to motivate them that little bit more.
Kids playing on the beach

#5 Don’t forget to do the most obvious activity in Eastbourne and take the kids down to the beach for a paddle in the sea! Loved by all ages for years gone by, there’s just something thrilling about knowing the sea will be freezing yet stepping closer and closer until the lapping waves reach your toes!

#6 Take a trip to the Italian Gardens, tucked away at the western end of the seafront. With ornate Italian architecture built in the 1920’s and still standing to this day! Use one of the paths off the main seafront to meander your way down the hill through the trees into the hidden garden. This is an ideal sun catcher, perfect for a relaxing quiet picnic. Whilst you’re down that way have a little go at the mini golf course, your competitive side will come out again!
Holywell beaches

#7 Visit Holywell the forgotten gem of Eastbourne’s seafront. Make sure you check the tide times before you visit, and aim to go at low tide to be truly amazed at the city of rock pools that emerge from beneath the sea! Grab your net and roll your clothes up, jumping from one rock pool to the next spotting the inhabitants that live there.

#8 Why not have an A-Z challenge with your family on your trips around Eastbourne? Finding anything which begins with each letter, whoever completes the alphabet or finishes with the most letters filled in wins! The beauty of this activity is it can be done anywhere around Eastbourne to keep everyone alert and on the search for a win.
Dotto Train

#9 If you’ve never been on Eastbourne’s famous Dotto train, you’re seriously missing out! Jump on at one of the 7 stops from the Sovereign harbour to the Holywell retreat and enjoy the scenic views drifting by. Why not make the most of not walking and stop off at Holywell tea chalet and grab an ice cream or delicious slice of cake, hopping back on the Dotto back up the seafront.

#10 If you’re planning on meeting friends and their children why not get together at a park, all bring sports equipment and either set up a sports day or mini tournaments. It’ll even bring out your competitive side!

Hopefully these activities help to pass the last few weeks heading back to school and create a memorable summer for the whole family!
