Jet Surfing Set to Make Waves at Beach Life Festival

11 July 2018

Watersports fans can look forward to high speed surfing at Beach Life Festival this weekend, as jet surfing joins the action-packed two day line-up from 14 – 15 July.

Jet Surfing at Beach Life Festival (Daniel Frederick Photography)The free extreme sports festival on the Eastern Seafront will see demonstrations on both days by Eastbourne Kayak and Surf, using high speed motorized jet surf boards, enabling fast action stunts, aerials and 360’s.

The latest craze has been making waves in the watersports world and joins a line-up on the sea of windsurfing, sailing and paddleboarding, including the return of the XL Stand Up Paddleboard Challenge, the perfect way to cool off in the heatwave!

Back on dry land, daredevils can jump into the festival from a 175 foot bungee, try out the skating pumptrack, cheer on Europe’s only Roller Derby event or watch the FIFA World Cup Final live on the big screen.

Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said “We’ve an incredible weekend lined up by the beach, from adrenaline pumping action to chilled vibes and family friendly fun. Beach Life is the perfect way to cool off in the heatwave, marvel at the experts and perhaps try out something new too.”

Those brave enough can jump for charity on Saturday 14 July, with a free jump for anyone raising £100 or more, for one of the festival’s official charity partners, or simply pay £60 without fundraising.

Kids and adults can try to avoid a total wipeout in the Last Man Standing inflatable podium game, jumping and ducking the inflatable beams, or try out a team based water challenge, as groups of 4 to 6 battle it out in the supersized XL Stand-up Paddleboard contest.

A 36 metre pumptrack circuit will be open to all ages for scooters, skateboards, BMX and balance bikes, set against a musical backdrop of skater inspired DJ sets from SunSonic and the Jellyfunk Allstars.

World Champion pro-scooter rider Dante Hutchinson will be showing how it’s done as the Eastbourne teen demonstrates his championship winning skills on the pumptrack. SkateWorld, Sk8School and Eastbourne Skating Club will also be on hand organising skating games, tournaments and demonstrations, and a SkateWorld after party on Saturday night.

Watersports newbies can book in advance to try windsurfing, sailing and paddleboard taster sessions from the Buzz Active beachfront watersports centre, or kick back and chill with live music from the festival stage. The two day musical billing of top local acts features South of Saturn, The Criminal Records, The Rufus Stone Band, Wolf Gap Road, Charmer, Mountfield, Ungrateful Dad and the BBC Introducing (South) recommended Cracks in the Land.

The VW Bus Stop Tour and 1066 Harley Owners Group will be rolling into town with a parade of vintage campervans and classic motorcycles. Meanwhile Junior Jenson’s can tear up the track in the Trackstars inflatable go kart race course, or try their hand at plate spinning and juggling with Circus by the Sea, plus funfair rides, inflatable football, bouncy castles and bungee trampolines.

For those seeking inner calm, Malli Yoga will provide strength and flexibility, while Swoove demonstrates the latest trend and fitness benefits of the sing-a-long exercise class, invented in Sussex.

Beach Life returns to the Eastern Seafront and Princes Park, from Saturday 14 – Sunday 15 July from 11am each day, and entry is free. To book a bungee jump, watersports taster or enter the XL Stand-up Paddleboard Challenge visit www.BeachlifeFestival.co.uk.
