Over 50’s Celebrate National Day With £1 Sports Sessions in Eastbourne

To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Older People’s Day in East Sussex, Sport Eastbourne will be hosting a day of sports sessions dedicated to over 50’s at just £1 per activity.

Offering Walking Netball, Walking Football and the fastest growing sport in America – Pickleball, over 50’s can try out new sports either for recreational purposes or competitive fun.

Pickleball, a racket sport combining badminton, tennis and table tennis, is now fast growing in popularity in the UK, using a smaller court and paddles for rackets, the sport helps to maintain good co-ordination and balance, making it perfect for all ages and fitness levels.

Older People’s Day is an International Day on 1 October celebrating the achievements and contributions that older people make to society. To mark the occasion, over 50’s can enjoy a jam-packed events programme across East Sussex offering the chance to get stuck into a whole host of activities, from sports to music and cookery classes.

As part of the events line-up, Sport Eastbourne will be running exclusive sports sessions for over 50’s on 2 October at Shinewater Sports Centre from 9am-2pm, costing just £1 per activity for new customers. Staff will be on hand and ready to welcome newcomers, with free hot drinks and biscuits to enjoy.

Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said “These sports sessions are not only a great way for people to become more active but they also present the perfect opportunity for making new friends and enjoying a different type of hobby.”

The full programme includes:

• 9.00 – 10.00am - Walking Football (Competitive)
• 10.00 – 11.00am - Walking Football (Recreational)
• 11.00am – 1.00pm - Pickleball
• 1.00pm – 2.00pm - Walking Netball
