More Fun in the Sun this Summer

1 August 2018

In the second part of our blog for school holiday activities, we continue to look at some great ideas which should keep all the family happy while you’re here. Tyro Lifeguard

When the sun shines, many of us just want to hit the beach and why wouldn’t you when there’s more than 3 miles of them to enjoy here in Eastbourne. Kick start the day with a family breakfast with a view at the Beach Deck and enjoy American pancakes, fresh juice and pastries before you make your way down to the beach. Then take a trip on the Dotto Train as it makes its way along the seafront all the way from Sovereign Harbour to the beaches at Holywell.

However, let’s not forget that it’s important that children know how to enjoy the beach and sea safely. With that in mind, the Eastbourne Beach Lifeguard team are running their Tyro Lifeguard course throughout the summer. Lead by a qualified and experienced team, the course is designed to be a fun way to provide youngsters with first aid training, a guide to beach and personal safety plus an introduction to basic lifeguarding, to equip them with the essential skills they need to enjoy time spent on or near the water.

Kids Disco

Get active and have a splashing time with Buzz Active with their holiday club courses, encouraging children to get out onto the water. They offer paddle boarding, kayaking, windsurfing and sailing taster courses. Or hire a kayak from Eastbourne Kayak and Surf and set off for your own maritime family adventure.

After long days spent enjoying the beach, kids will love the open air disco at the Eastbourne Bandstand. From Tuesday 24 July, young pop fans can hit the dance floor, to enjoy all the latest chart hits together with some family favourites at the popular Kids Disco Party Nights. Leo the Lifeguard will be joining in the fun each week, taking part in some lively dance-offs, leading the Bandstand conga and getting everyone involved in some crowd-pleasing party dance routines. There’s also free face painting each week from the Bandstand’s face painting artist.

There’s also the tribute show to pop star Ariana Grande taking place on Monday 27 August. A definite family favourite, youngsters are sure to be singing along to a host of her well-known hits, and a perfect way to round off the school holidays.

Urban Jump

Perhaps we can’t expect wall to wall sunshine every day (as much as we’d love it) so sometimes you might need an indoor activity to prevent the boredom from setting in! Urban Jump trampoline park is a fantastic place for everyone to bounce around and have a great time! With an array of features including 1000’s of square feet of connected trampolines, foam pits, trampoline dodgeball and more, there’s plenty to keep everyone occupied.

Fort Fun provides a multitude of amusements, exhilarating play areas, mini golf adventures and bouncy fun. When the sun does make an appearance, it’s also the only outdoor water park in Sussex where children can enjoy flumes, water squirters and tipping buckets.

Then for a great night which the whole family will enjoy, head down to the Devonshire Park Theatre from 9 August to 1 September for the much loved and critically acclaimed, Olivier award winning spectacular, Return to the Forbidden Planet. With a brilliant cast of actor musicians, stunning special effects and live music this is a must-see, feel-good musical.

Ace at Airbourne

Don’t forget that for a great family day out then make sure you have the Eastbourne International Airshow in your calendar. From 16-19 August, this free, four day flying spectacular is guaranteed to wow you as the very best in civilian and military aircraft take to the skies above Eastbourne.  Say hello to Ace The AirBear, the loveable Airbourne mascot who will be making a number of appearances at the show.
