Ways to bridge the gap between Christmas and New Year

21 December 2017

As we all know very well once the excitement of Christmas and Boxing Day is over the wait is on for New Year’s Eve, a whole week of eating left over Christmas delights and relaxing. Well not this year…

We’ve come up with 10 top ways to spend your last few days of 2017, heading into the New Year feeling refreshed and ready for what’s to come!

1 - Up first we have a way to burn off those extra calories, download the Visit Eastbourne Trails app and explore the trails around Eastbourne. Seeing new sights and taking in some much needed fresh air.

2 – Take a journey down the yellow brick road. Enjoying The Wizard of Oz at the Royal Hippodrome Theatre, from 27 – 31 December follow all your favourite characters with their captivating performances. The ideal place to sit back, relax and be entertained.

3 – Fancy a Holiday but feeling the pinch of Christmas? Why not try a staycation! Either in Eastbourne, spending the day doing things you wouldn’t normally do OR take a train to one of our neighbouring towns and spend your day exploring what they have to offer. A mini break without the hassle!

– Want to be productive without spending a penny? Take the opportunity to have a bit of a winter clean up around the house, donating all your unwanted items to good causes who could do with the help.

5 – Thinking about those who don’t have a home to go to this Christmas, it’s a vital time to ensure our food banks are well stocked up to help as many people possible. Take the time to clear the cupboards, any un-opened Christmas foodie gifts can be taken down to your local food bank to make a difference to someone else’s day.

6 – Once you’ve completed all the trails on the Visit Eastbourne app, take yourself on a celebratory walk across Beachy Head. Stopping off to treat yourself to a luxury hot chocolate in a cosy warm pub, soaking in the wondrous views.

– If you didn’t get a chance to go to the panto before Christmas we would highly recommend you go before you miss out on all the fun and games!! Join the cast of Dick Whittington and his Cat at the Devonshire Park Theatre for plenty of ‘he’s behind you’!

8 – Soak in the culture at the Towner Art Gallery, with two insightful exhibitions on there’s plenty for you to admire! ‘A Green and Pleasant Land’ is exhibiting until 21 January and ‘Jessica Warboys ECHOGAP’ is featured until 4 February.

– We know you hate them but feel obliged to join in. Resolutions. The things you promise yourself but never start, well this year’s different! Whether it’s spending time admiring your home town more or venturing out of your comfort zone and applying for Beachy Head Marathon? Try something new and push yourself to achieve something new this New Year!

10 – Celebrate the first day of the New Year in the company of family and friends at the UK’s busiest bandstand with The Ray Campbell Dance Band from 11am-12:30pm.
