Three Local Causes Receive Invaluable Donations from Eastbourne Airshow Bucket Collections

28 November 2017

It proved to be the season of giving last night after three local good causes received a cheque of £3366.52 from bucket collections made earlier this year at the 25th anniversary of Eastbourne International Airshow: Airbourne.

The Three Good Causes & Deputy Mayor Cllr Harun Miah

Age Concern Eastbourne, Memory Lane and The Charles Hunt Centre each received £3366.52 after Eastbourne International Airshow’s visitors proved yet again to be extremely generous, raising a huge total of £33,665.23 through collections. This year’s figure brings the total amount collected since 2009 to more than £250,000 with over £75,000 raised for charity in the last 8 years.

The bucket collection could not have been made possible without the dedication of Don Perman, Steve Newman and the Rotary Clubs of Eastbourne, Sovereign Harbour and Hailsham whose members played a vital role in fundraising. The funds collected not only help to ensure the future of the Airshow, but 30% of the proceeds support three local causes. The incredible total was raised with the help of bucket collectors, Airshow visitors and Ace the Airbear.

The good causes were presented by Deputy Mayor Cllr Harun Miah and the Airshow Project Board on 27 November at a thank you event for the charities and volunteers who dedicated their time to the collections.

Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said “A huge thank you to those who kindly offered their donations, time and dedication to this year’s Airshow. It is always incredibly heart-warming to see the generosity of those who donate to the Airshow every year. The money that has been raised offers invaluable support to our chosen good causes and allows us to keep Eastbourne’s iconic Airshow running.”

The remaining 70% of the funds from the total of £33,665 raised will go towards next year’s flying programme as event organisers hope to wow the crowds with another year of aviation nostalgia.

For next year’s 26th Airshow, the event organisers are welcoming suggestions for a good cause to appear alongside two charities to receive 30% of donations raised at next year’s Airshow. To submit an entry, simply write the name of the charity you would like to put forward as The People’s Charity and send this to Tourism and Enterprise, College Road, Eastbourne BN21 4JJ.
