Eastbourne Tourist Information CentreReaching the final four in both the Tourism Event/Festival of the Year and Visitor Information Service of the Year categories, the awards organised by Tourism South East could see the teams pick up gold, silver or bronze in an Oscar’s style ceremony on 5 December.

Both Airbourne and the Tourist Information team have achieved success at the awards previously, picking up gold and silver awards. If successful, the winners will be one step closer to being selected in the VisitEngland Awards for Excellence, where both have achieved Highly Commended once before.

Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Cabinet Member for Tourism and Enterprise, Cllr Margaret Bannister said “This is exciting news to be chosen as finalists once again, and shows how passionate we are about providing first class tourism services and outstanding events.

While our Tourist Information Centre increases its service offer, bucking the national trend, Airbourne too just gets bigger and bigger with up to 34 aircraft programmed each day this year, fantastic new ground displays and a packed seafront.”

Despite many TIC’s closing across the country, Eastbourne Tourist Information Centre in Cornfield Road has remained commercially successful, providing a one-stop shop for many transport services, ticket agencies and a vibrant gift shop.

As well as theatre tickets and tokens, National Express coach tickets, tourist information and accommodation bookings, the team also provide great value ‘Day Saver’ train tickets, providing unlimited travel on the Southern Railway network for just £20 per person or £40 for a group of 4. The team also added local gelateria Fusciardi’s sensational Italian ice cream to their gift shop menu this summer.

As well as welcoming the Red Arrows, Typhoon, Chinook and a new display from the Belgian Air Force, Airbourne also this year added a giant Big Wheel, a LEGO® brick red jet cockpit and a brand new RAF Virtual Reality experience to its list of attractions.
