British No.1 Johanna Konta Set to Play Hat-Trick of Pre-Wimbledon Summer Tournaments In Nottingham, Birmingham and Eastbourne

20 March 2019

The Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) announced today that British star Johanna Konta has confirmed her intention to play all three British WTA events in the lead up to Wimbledon.

Nature Valley Eastbourne• Nature Valley Open (at Nottingham) from 8th –16th June
• Nature Valley Classic (at Birmingham) from 15th - 23rd June
• Nature Valley International (at Eastbourne) from 21st – 29th June

This is the third year in a row the British No.1 reaffirms her commitment to the British grass court season as part of her preparation for The Championships at Wimbledon. Konta, who is expected to headline a strong GB Fed Cup team against Kazakhstan at Copper Box Arena from April 20-21, has enjoyed some of the best results of her career on British grass, including reaching the final of Nottingham the last two years, upsetting the world No.1 at Eastbourne 2017 and reaching the semifinals of Wimbledon the same year, culminating in a career-best ranking of No.4 right afterwards.

Speaking on the announcement Konta said: “I’m really excited to be returning to play these fantastic tournaments this summer. The grass court season is one of my favourites and nothing compares to competing at home with passionate fans, friends and family who are behind you all the way.

“There is always strong player field at Nottingham, Birmingham and Eastbourne with no easy matches. I really hope the fans come out to support me and the other players all the way. These tournaments also provide me with the perfect pathway to Wimbledon.”

The LTA’s Director of International Events and Professional Game, Stephen Farrow said: “After a fantastic 2018 which saw all our grass court events deliver record ticket sales and outstanding player fields, 2019 is about building on that success and opening up our sport to new audiences.

“We’re absolutely delighted to welcome back our British No.1 to play the three WTA pre-Wimbledon WTA British grass court events. Not only is Johanna a world-class player, but she’s a crowd favourite and is certain to receive a warm welcome in Nottingham, Birmingham and of course her home town of Eastbourne.”

Tickets for the Nature Valley Open (at Nottingham), the Nature Valley Classic (at Birmingham), and Nature Valley International (at Eastbourne) are already available at www.lta.org.uk/majorevents.
