Redoubt Builds the Story of Lego at Culture & Cake

3 July 2018

Culture and Cake will be revealing the story behind some of the world’s most popular toys on Saturday 14 July, from Lego and Star Wars to 70’s military hero Action Man.

The Story of LegoExploring nostalgic childhood memories, Jason Godden will reveal the fascinating stories behind the political and economic climate that inspired these toys and made them so popular.

From present day Barbie, which first began production in 1959, to 80’s comic book and TV icon, He-Man, the talk will take inspiration from some of the objects in the Eastbourne Remembers exhibition.

Jason will discuss how far toy manufacturing has moved on, and what possibly lies ahead for future generations. Will children still play with action figures, or are Angry Birds and Candy Crush the toys of the future?

With a display of retro and vintage toys, audience members will be able to relive some forgotten memories and enjoy some play time themselves with a few of the exhibits.

Culture and Cake: Toys, a Product of the Times? starts at 2pm on Saturday 14 July at the Redoubt Fortress. Tickets cost £6 and include tea or coffee and a slice of cake.

Tickets available at the Redoubt Fortress, telephone 01323 410300, or Eastbourne Tourist Information, or book online at www.HeritageEastbourne.co.uk.
