Help Defend the Redoubt with the 79th Cameron Highlanders

There’s a weekend of time travel to be had on 28 and 29 July at the Redoubt Fortress when the 79th Cameron Highlanders help bring history to life.

Cameron HighlandersVisitors can expect an explosive time accompanied by the sound of musket fire as the soldiers help keep the fortress safe from invasion. Throughout the weekend the Highlanders will be in the parade ground demonstrating a series of military manoeuvres including drills, bayonet use, sword techniques and barrack cookery. The battlefield doctor will also be ready to show off some examples of gruesome Georgian surgical practices in amputation, bullet extraction and teeth removal!

History lovers can enhance their experience to see what it was really like for the residents of the Redoubt over 200 years ago by downloading the Redoubt’s free 3D augmented reality app too. The app provides a truly immersive experience allowing visitors to meet the many faces of the fort.

The visit by the Cameron Highlanders forms part of the Redoubt’s packed calendar of activities for children during the school summer holidays. This includes a free trail and crafts within the Fortress and the Tell Me a Story workshops which will let young imaginations run wild!

Each of these weekly workshops will encourage children to explore stories and tales by making sock puppets, peg dolls and use their creative minds to make story stones.

The 79th Cameron Highlanders will be at the Fortress between 10.00-17.00 on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 July. Admission costs £4.50 per adult and throughout 2018, kids get free* entry to the historic attraction.

The Tell Me a Story workshops cost £3.50 per child and run every Wednesday from 1 August until 29 August.
