Rocking Through the Ages at the Bandstand

5 September 2018

It’s sure to be ‘Waterloo Sunsets’ and ‘Cigarettes and Alcohol’ when two super groups take to the stage at the Eastbourne Bandstand on 14 and 15 September.

The Kinx Tribute at the Bandstand

On Friday 14 September, audiences will be reliving the sounds of the swinging Sixties when The Kinx bring the sounds of The Kinks to the seafront venue for the first time. With three albums to their name and an endorsement from Dave Davies himself, The Kinx have established themselves as one of the country’s premier Kinks tribute acts.

Expect to hear all the hits from the Ray Davies song book including ‘You Really Got Me’, ‘Tired of Waiting for You’ and ‘Dedicated Follower of Fashion’. Among numerous honours, The Kinks received the Ivor Novello Award for "Outstanding Service to British Music" and in 1990, the original four members of the band were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Oasis Tribute at the BandstandOn Saturday 15 September, it’s fast forward to the 90’s when Oasis Maybeevoke the days of Britpop and Cool Britannia with a tribute to the music of Oasis. The group capture the sound, look and feel of the band from the 1994-1997 era performing tracks from ‘Definitely Maybe’ and ‘What’s the Story Morning Glory?’ with a few famous B-sides and thrown in for good measure.

Oasis came to be regarded as one of the major bands of the Britpop movement and in many respects; they eclipsed their peers in terms of commercial success and their influence on British culture. Their album ‘What's the Story Morning Glory?’ became one of the best-selling albums of all time, selling 22 million copies worldwide.

For lovers of brass and silver band sounds then head along for The Traditional Afternoon which returns on Sunday 16 September with the music provided by the Edenbridge Town Band from 3pm.

Wednesday evenings at the Bandstand are always colourful affairs with the 1812 Fireworks and Proms Concert. Music lovers are sure to enjoy the culmination of concert music provided on Wednesday 19 September from the Band of the Surrey Yeomanry which ends triumphantly with a spectacular Firework display over the seafront. Starting at 8pm, these shows have become a truly iconic seaside musical tradition.

During September, the Bandstand is running a special ticket offer for all Wednesday evening shows. Buy one adult ticket (early bird adult tickets only) and receive one at half price, making two adult tickets just £11.63.
