Season of Films at the Fortress Begins with Cult Classic “Withnail and I”

The Redoubt Film Season kicks off on Saturday 25 May with a screening of the cult comedy classic ‘Withnail and I’ (rated 15) starring Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann.

Film season at the FortressLoosely based on director Bruce Robinson's life in London in the late 1960s, the plot follows two unemployed actors, Withnail and "I" who share a flat in Camden Town in 1969. Needing a holiday, they obtain the key to a country cottage in the Lake District belonging to Withnail's eccentric uncle Monty and drive there. The weekend holiday proves less recuperative than they expected!

The doors and bar will open at 6.30pm with the film soundtrack played in the parade ground followed by the screening at 7.30pm.

To coincide with the 75th Anniversary of D-Day on Saturday 22 June, the atmospheric setting of the Redoubt will play host to a screening of the WWII epic, ‘The Longest Day’ (rated PG)

Widely acclaimed as one of Hollywood’s greatest war films, The Longest Day is a spectacular account of the events leading up to and through the Allied Forces’ invasion of Normandy in June 1944. Featuring a huge and talented cast headed by John Wayne, Henry Fonda, Richard Burton, Sean Connery and Robert Mitchum.

Movie goers can view some WW2 artefacts once the doors and bar open at 6.00pm before the film begins at 7.30pm.

Fans of the 1980’s “Brat Pack” will enjoy ‘The Breakfast Club’ (rated 15) showing on Saturday 27 July. This 1985 American comedy-drama stars Emilio Estevez, Anthony Michael Hall, Judd Nelson, Molly Ringwald and Ally Sheedy as teenagers from different high school cliques who spend a Saturday in detention with their strict and grumpy assistant principal.

The Breakfast Club is known as the "quintessential 1980s film" and is considered as one of the best films of the decade. The doors and bar will open at 6.30pm with the soundtrack played in the parade ground, followed by the film at 7.30pm.
