Eyes to the Skies for an Evening of Stargazing at the Western Lawns

9 January 2019

Eastbourne’s free stargazing event returns to the Western Lawns on Saturday 12 January.

Stargazing at the Western Lawns

Run by Eastbourne Astronomical Society from 5 – 7pm, members of the society will be on hand to point out the constellations, features on the Moon and even some of the planets. Stargazers can take a peek through the telescopes provided or settle down in a quiet spot with their own.

The dates of these stargazing events are chosen so that the Moon will always be somewhere near First Quarter, which with the low lunar light, provides the best viewing conditions for spotting its deep craters and impressive mountain ranges.

Other bright objects in the night sky will also be observed, usually planets, but the visibility of these varies from month to month as they orbit the Sun.

Following the stellar star spotting, visitors can warm up afterwards at the nearby Lansdowne Hotel with 20% off all food and drink on stargazing evenings.

All stargazing events are free and children are very welcome. Stargazers should wrap up warm.

For more information visit or telephone 01323 410300.
