Congress Theatre

The Congress Theatre in Carlisle Road is a purpose built theatre and conference venue with a seating capacity of 1647. The largest theatre on the South Coast, the Congress attracts the biggest and best West End shows, all the top touring shows and star names. Nothing beats the thrill of live entertainment!
Devonshire Park Theatre

is a Grade II listed building designed by Henry Currey, built in 1884 and further improved by celebrated Theatre Architect Frank Matcham in 1903. It is one of the best examples of small Victorian Theatre in the country with ornate interior featuring decorative plaster work with scrolls and caryatids by Schmidt of Holloway.

The Bohemian
The Bohemian is an all-day pub and late-night music venue in the heart of Eastbourne’s cultural district, drawing inspiration from its historic setting in Devonshire Park, nestled next to theatres and venues such as the Winter Garden. International Tennis at Devonshire Park

The world class tennis courts at Devonshire Park play host to six major tennis tournaments each year. Every June, international tennis takes place with coverage beamed across the world on TV. Other tennis events include County tennis, junior and veteran events, all free to spectators.
History of the Devonshire Quarter
Dating from 1874, Devonshire Park has long been an attraction within Eastbourne.
The region was originally laid out with terraces, walks and a cricket ground. Later additions to Eastbourne’s oldest park included racquets and skating for the Victorian middle classes with the first tennis courts being laid out in 1880 and tournament in 1881.
The park was bordered by the Devonshire Baths which were constructed in 1874, the Winter Garden in 1875, the Devonshire Park Theatre in 1884 and the Indian Pavilion in 1891. All of these were built by the Devonshire Park & Baths Company, of which the 7th Duke of Devonshire was the main shareholder.
Now demolished, at the time the Devonshire Baths were the largest heated salt water baths in the country. The Indian Pavilion was taken down to make way for the Congress Theatre in 1963. With a history stretching back over 140 years, the face of Devonshire Park has changed over time but remained popular with residents and visitors.
