From one woman to another.

2018 marks 100 years since women were given the right to vote for the first time. WayfinderWoman will celebrate the historic female figures of Eastbourne with an eye-opening exhibition of the achievements of these ladies over the past 100 years and more.

Over the last 18 months, a group of female volunteers has delved into the hidden women of Eastbourne’s past, a topic that has excited and impressed everyone involved in what is shaping up to be a unique project. The project, which was funded by a National Lottery grant of £79,500 from the Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF), has explored figures including Marie Corbett, the earliest known architect of foster care; Emily Phipps a suffragette and early proponent of equal pay for women; and aviator and industrialist Jessy Blackburn.

The two year project, run in partnership with Eastbourne Borough Council, has seen volunteers trained in research skills to track down the untold stories of these Eastbourne women who were influential artists, writers, inventors, industrialists and social reformers.
