Local Singer Achieves Dream of Performing on Bandstand Stage
27th May 2026
Local singer Sam Hughes will be achieving his childhood dream this weekend, as he performs on stage at Eastbourne’s iconic Bandstand.
The Sussex musician, who tours as the UK’s youngest Elton John tribute act, will be performing live as the opening act at the Beach Life Music Festival weekend from Saturday 30 – Sunday 31 May
The 29 year old and South East Entertainment Awards nominee has been performing as his hero for 13 years now and is looking forward to delighting audiences with some of Elton’s biggest hits alongside his band, The Yellow Brick Roadsters, at Eastbourne’s biggest free music festival.
Sam said “It has always been my dream to perform a tribute evening at the Bandstand. On Saturday, I will get to be up there on the big stage, which is something I'm really looking forward to. I'm really hoping that it will lead to my band and I perhaps performing there at an Elton Tribute evening in the future.
“The Bandstand is such an iconic venue and a massive part of the history of Eastbourne, also it was a very big part of my life growing up locally and visiting the surrounding beaches and seeing so many fantastic performances there. Hopefully the sun will be shining on us all - we can't wait to see you all.”
Eastbourne Borough Council Lead Member for Tourism & Place, Cllr Jenny Williams said, “Beach Life Music Festival is part of our summer programme to promote and showcase the best of Eastbourne’s local talent. We are so pleased that Sam will be performing at the Bandstand for the first time and achieving his dream.”
Sam and The Yellow Brick Roadsters will open Beach Life Music Festival at 11am on Saturday 30 May. The free music event will be kicking off the summer early from 30 – 31 May, showcasing the best in local talent with festival fun and tempting street food.
Other acts performing over the weekend include post-punk new wave outfit Zachary Dogwood, party band Rewind 45, nine-piece soul, funk and rock band The Big Kahuna, classic rock anthems from Ultra Sound, acoustic duo Spooky Wagons, mod, soul and ska from The Modsteppers and closing the weekend is the ultimate 70s hits from Glam Rox.
